Yellowstone, Here We Come!

Wyoming gave us a very windy welcome, as you may be able to tell from the picture above!
The landscape in WY is unlike anything we've ever seen before! You travel for miles and miles in utter desolation with only an occasional ranch here and a herd of cows there. With so many sweeping hills and so much sagebrush, you feel like it takes hours to get anywhere because the scenery is so unchanging!
It has this emptiness and freedom and beauty of its own that is so attractive! It is no wonder people come here to relax and vacation!

We stopped at a scenic look-out over the bighorn mountains. We won't talk about how long it took us to pull our heavy camper up the very steep mountains. ;) The scenery more then paid off! It was incredible and majestic!
The children wore off some pent-up energy by playing Indians!

His fiercest "chieftain" look! (do real Indians have dimples??=)

A quaint Methodist church on a ranch, on the way to Yellowstone.

We spent Saturday night in a campground in Cody, Wyoming, also known as the home of Buffalo "Bill" Cody. This lake is actually built up by a massive dam which became the model for the Hoover Dam.

The next day, Sunday, we were able to drive into Yellowstone Park and check it out a little and see what we wanted to do there in the next few days.

 Finally!!!!!

Our first pull off was at this beautiful lake! The first part of the park was badly damaged by fire a few years ago so most of the trees looked like burnt match sticks stuck in the ground. But after you passed those, you entered into the most beautiful landscape I've ever seen!

Within minutes of entering the park, we encountered this massive brute walking down the road towards us! He got so close to our vehicle that we could have reached out and touched him!
We started counting the bison as we began to see them, but soon gave up as the number quickly reached 75 and more!
We were very excited after a couple hours of looking to finally get a peak at this female elk! She was so tame and kept walking closer and closer to us until we had to get into our vehicle to stay the required 25 yards away!

We have many more pictures and will be taking and posting more in the next few days!
Have any of you been to Yellowstone Park? Do you have any favorite places out West to tour and visit? If so, feel free to leave us a comment below. We'd love to hear from you!
